Larry Dignan on Tablet Pricing

John Gruber:

Larry Dignan:

When Apple CEO Steve Jobs launched the iPad it wasn’t clear how aggressively these newfangled devices were priced. Now we know because Android tablets and other rival tablets can’t hang on pricing.

Today’s Apple has turned the pricing story on its head. Used to be the knock against Apple was their kit was overpriced. Now, even putting quality aside, competitors can’t match Apple’s prices.

It’s going to be interesting to see how long it will take competitiors to catch-up this time.

I pay for MobileMe precisely because it is not Gmail. No ads mucking up my apps, responsive support, third party sync platform.

David Chartier.

My thoughts exactly.

MobileMe is one of the few subscription services that I gladly pay money for, every year. It’s inexpensive, too: In Germany a mail provider like GMX charges you €5,- per month for IMAP access to your mails. That equals €60,- in twelve months, which is only slightly less than I pay for MobileMe. Even if one does not use every feature MobileMe offers, it’s still more than a good deal.
