Great tear down by Craig Grannell of Timothy B. Lee’s nearsighted Forbes piece, “Why Google is Winning the Smartphone Wars”

Here’s the deal - the “smartphone wars” have been imagined by pundits and analysts for a variety of reasons, including linkbaiting, stock manipulation and incompetence.

We have never been at war with Eastgoogle.

Great short post by Harry Marks with a link to an equally great post.

The piece by Timothy B. Lee is so riddled with factual and logical errors, I wonder how this man managed to graduate.

The three reasons behind Google’s frothing hatred of software version numbers, sanity

chartier:

  1. Google’s large enough
  2. No one (or at least no one with enough clout) has taken Google to the mat for updating its web apps and being too lazy to document changes
  3. Google offers absolutely no customer service channels so people can’t actually bother it when (not if) real world problems arise

Period.

These are some of the reasons why I use as few Google services as possible; it’s just not worth the hassle. I would never rely on a service for anything important, that doesn’t offer any kind of customer support.

If I didn’t need Google Reader, I’d delete my Google ID in a heartbeat.

Web apps are the future because the web is open and works in every modern browser.

Open or closed, what’s better Android or iOS?

Great discussion between Jim Dalrymple and one of his friends.

Be sure to check out the comments, there are some great arguments being made down there.

Google are a bunch of lying hypocrites

The linked article outlines the reason I much rather spend my money on something by Apple or Microsoft than anything that Google had its hands in.

With companies like Apple, Microsoft, HP, etc. life is pretty simple: They want my money, preferably loads of it and they don’t make a secret of it. For that I get products and services and no bullshit.

Google on the other hands just wants information, because knowledge is power and there is NO company more power hungry than Google. Not one.

Microsoft provides a HTML5 H.264 extension for Chrome

Claudio Caldato, Microsoft:

Google recently announced that its Chrome web browser will stop supporting the H.264 video format. At Microsoft we respect that Windows customers want the best experience of the web including the ability to enjoy the widest range of content available on the Internet in H.264 format.
Today, as part of the interoperability bridges work we do on this team, we are making available the Windows Media Player HTML5 Extension for Chrome, which is an extension for Google Chrome to enable Windows 7 customers who use Chrome to continue to play H.264 video.

When Microsoft steps into the breach for Windows users because ever-so-open Google denies users ability to make use of universally accepted, closed source web standards, something isn’t right.Or something is very right at Microsoft.

Bloatware, now on your Android device

This is great: Unwanted, non-removable bloatware on factory new Android devices. It’s like Windows 98 all over again.

I think Apple should just get the old ‘Get a Mac’ ad out of the archives, and overlay the words ‘PC’ with ‘Android’ and ‘Mac’ with ‘iPhone’.

If you don’t know which ad I’m talking about, here it is:
